I just finished watching Tropa de elite. It's a must see period.A while back ago, I was lucky enough to attend to an event where Cidade de Deus (City of God) was screened. That movie blew my mind in more than one way, starting from a pure cinematographically point of view, where the music, the cinematography itself, the acting, everything was superb in that brasilian production. But that only was about the form, the content was the real shocker. That movie is based on a book whose author was presenting the movie and when the movie ended and a round of question from the public rise the question of wether the movie was reflecting accurately real life, the only thing he could answer back was that the book had been written ten years ago and at that moment (ten year ago now) the situation had gotten worse.Tropa de Elite shares the brasilian background, the fight against the drug dealers although this time the story is seen through the eyes of one of the members of an special police force (kind of SWAT) called BOPE. The movie is based on a same title book which reflects real facts about the operations of this policial force. The movie is a nonstop journey through the fight against crime that takes place in the brasilian favelas. The acting is excelent (kudos to its main character) and the two hours passed by real fast.While reading the wikipedia page for this movie I noted that this movie had been critizied as a "a one-note celebration of violence-for-good that plays like a recruitment film for fascist thugs". Yeap, that's correct, but it is also true that for one to critize another, he should had walked in his shoes first, so violence is bad, but so it's doing nothing. I would like to know what the journalist who said that would had done if he ever had to be in those situations.Anyway, it's a great movie, and absolutely worth watching it!
